Picture Post

We had a small family Celebration this evening in honor of our 4 year old Jacob... We are planning a birthday party for the weekend at my parents place. Happy Birthday Jacob!!

Jacob posing with his stuffies, his two favorite are bear bear and moose... You have to love the way he names the stuffies.. There is also Piggy, Chihuahua ,Chihuahua two two, Turtle, Big Bear and Sparky(the one with the wild hair)

My little boy turns 4 Today

My little boy is 4 years old toady, and I am wondering where this past year has gone. I can clearly see how much you have grown and accomplished in the past year. When you turned three you were still napping during the day, you were almost fully potty trained. Look at you now!

You are Mr. Independant. You like to pick out your own clothes in the morning and I let you even just to see what you come up with. You are still loving your Stuffies (stuffed animals)Bear Bear and Moose. You like to turn on your Night Light all by yourself.

This year you were hospitalized for 8 days you had a growth on your gland in your neck. You were treated with IV antibiotics. Also this was the year I decided to be a SAHM. It is truly the st decision we have made as a family. I get to be with my two favorite boys every day.

I am anxious and hesitant to see what this coming year will bring. I want to enjoy your 4th year with you. I hope that you will still find time for snuggles and hugs with Mommy. In the upcoming year you are going to be a Big Brother, and I know that you will be an amazing Big Brother, you are anxious to hug and hold our new baby!

I'll love you forever,
I'll like you for always,
As long as I'm living my baby you'll be.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JACOB

Diaper Pail Liner

I had a diaper pail liner made and I picked it up Yesterday..I am so excited about all things related to cloth diapering.. I had to share the photo of the liner.

Sunday Morning Stroll!!

What a beautiful morning.... We had a house full of kids this morning so I whisked them off bright and early.. We drove into town and picked up Muffins and Juice stoped at a local nature trail had our breakfast outdoors then went for a walk.

I made each child promise that they would not run off on their own. I am having a baby within the next two weeks and i am unable to run after the kids.. When I was pregnant with Jacob I thought it would be nice to get out with Seamus and take him for a bike ride along the waterfront boardwalk which is very popular in our little city. We started on the boardwalk and with Seamus on his bike he took off at full speed... Laughing and yelling Catch me Mommy Catch me...I was 39 weeks pregnant.. Running down the boardwalk after my three year old at the time. A man witnessing this scene actually stepped in and stoped Seamus and walked him back to me... I was crying, Seamus was crying and this man was had tears in his eyes....but not from crying... from Laughing....

So this morning I had no runaways...

How Many Diapers?

The amount of cloth diapers you will need to buy depends on a few things; how frequently you change diapers (this is especially related to how old your baby is), how often you plan on washing, and what type of diapering system you choose.

NEWBORN

When planning for diapers for a brand new baby, you will especially need to concentrate on how often you will be changing diapers. Because newborns tend to have a bowel movement nearly every time they urinate (especially those that are breastfed), they may need anywhere from 12-18 diapers a day!

For this age, I recommend either a prefold and cover system, fitted diapers with covers. For convenience with other diaper changers (My Husband) or when going out and about, you may choose to pick up a few pocket or all-in-one diapers.

So, when doing laundry every 1.5 days, for newborns I would recommend...
18-24 prefolds OR fitted diapers (or a combination of the two)

2 Snappi diaper fasteners (if using prefolds)

4-6 covers

18-24 wipes (if you are washing diapers, why not wash your wipes too!)

1 wetbag

2 pail liners (one can be washing and one can be clean)

For older Babies & Toddlers

Once your child gets past the newborn stage, you will need to concentrate much more on absorbancy, especially for toddlers. If you are doing laundry every day and a half, you will need 14-16 diapers, in any combination of prefolds, fitteds, pockets, or one-size diapers. As baby gets older, this stash could stretch you longer than a day and a half. Want to wash every two days? Add a few more diapers to your stash.

For the most economical solution, you can use prefolds and covers. Fitteds with covers or pockets add more convenience, and then all-in-ones are the most expensive but easiest to use. As with newborns, don't feel like you have to stick with one system! Any combination will be fine.

14-16 diapers

4-6 covers (for prefolds and fitted diapers)

18-24 wipes (If you are washing diapers, why not wash your wipes too!)

1 wetbag

2 pail liners (one can be washing and one can be clean

As your child gets older, you will find yourself needing extra absorbency in your diapers. The time frame for this can vary depending on how often the diaper is changed and how much of a heavy wetter the child is. When this happens, you will need to add some extra absorbency to your diapers.
If you are using pocket diapers, you will need 1 insert (two for a heavy wetter) for each day time pocket diaper. For night time diapering, you will need 2-3 inserts per diaper.
For fitted and prefold diapers, you will need 1 cover for every 2-3 fitteds or prefolds. The cover can be reused as long as it isn't wet or soiled. For night time diapering, try a fleece or wool cover for maximum wetness protection.

Cloth Diaper Lingo

Over the past few months I have been searching through tremendous amounts of information on Cloth Diapering (CD).

I made a decision to CD my third child who will be here in a few weeks. I wanted to learn about what really works for moms who CD. I wanted to know what worked what didn't.

During this time I realized that there is CD Lingo/ Terms. The lingo can be overwhelming as with all the information available. I put together a list that is hopefully helpful to Moms or Moms to be.

All in One Diaper (AIO): This is a diaper that has the absorbent layer permanently attached and has a waterproof outer layer. The closures are adjustable, using either aplix or snaps. This is a more expensive way to cloth diaper, but is the easiest to use. AIOs are great for the daycare setting.

All in Two Diaper (AI2): This is a diaper that has the absorbent layer or soaker attached with snaps and has a waterproof outer layer. The soaker can be removed for washing and then snapped back in. The closures are adjustable, using either aplix or snaps. This is an expensive way to cloth diaper, but like the AIO, AI2s are easiest to use. AI2s are a good choice for daycare settings.

Pocket Diaper: A two part diapering system makes for easy washing. This type of diaper has a "pocket" at the back of the diaper for stuffing with either prefolds or inserts and has a waterproof outer layer. The ability to stuff the diaper makes it a very customizable system. It is a little more expensive, but very convenient.

Prefold: A flat diaper that comes in varying sizes and thickness and is folded to fit baby. This is an economical way to cloth diaper. This type of diaper requires a waterproof cover.

Cover: Anything that "covers" a fitted or prefold cloth diaper. It is usually waterproof. A cover can be made of cotton, fleece, PUL, or wool.

Fitted Diaper: A cloth diaper that is shaped to fit your baby. It is usually made of cotton and/or hemp and closes with either snaps or Velcro/Aplix. This type of diaper requires a waterproof cover.

One Size (OS): A single diaper that will adjust to fit multiple sizes.

Insert: This is a layer of material typically used in a pocket diaper to add absorbency. It can be customized to your child's needs. An insert can be made of cotton, hemp or micro-terry.

PUL (polyurethane laminate): PUL is simply fabric in which a waterproof laminate has been applied to the back. This makes for an extremely thin, soft fabric that is waterproof and easy to care for.

Doubler: This is used to "double" the absorbency of a diaper. It is used typically in fitted or prefold diapers and is placed on top of the diaper, next to baby's skin.

Dry Pail: This is a method of storing dirty diapers until wash day. Simply place in diaper pail liner after shaking any solids into toilet.

Diaper Pail Liner: A bag used to store dirty diapers. It can be either a washable, waterproof bag that can be washed with diapers or it can simply be a kitchen trash bag. Both can be used inside a hinge-lid trash can.

Wet Bag: A waterproof bag used to hold dirty diapers when out of the house. This bag closes with a drawstring, snaps or zipper.

Wicking: This happens when the wetness from the inside of the diaper is drawn to the edges of the diaper and causes the babies clothes to get damp - much like when a disposable diaper "leaks". This can be prevented by making sure that detergent is completely rinsed from your diapers and adding extra layers of absorbency when needed.

Stripping: This is a method of removing detergent residue from cloth diapers

Saturday

I am loving the weather that we are having on the Island today. We accomplished quite a bit this morning/afternoon. 3 loads of laundry washed and hung out on the line to dry, our vegetable garden is ready for planting, flower beds are ready for mulch and some annuals to add some colour. The lawn is cut and two trees that had to come down(due to a rough winter and windstorm damage) are down, blocked and stacked for the campfire wood. The house is clean, with the kids outside with daddy all morning I actually cleaned the house and it has stayed cleaned.....it should be back to the normal state of borderline Chaos when the kids decide to head on in for the evening.

Trying to decide what to do for Dinner tonight we have all 4 kiddos this evening and deciding on a meal that everyone will enjoy can sometimes be a chore.... I have Chicken Stir Fry on my mind...

Our home is fully prepared for Aiden, the nursery is complete, all clothes have been washed and folded and put away, the bassinet is set up and ready for him, the diaper bag is packed and ready to go! We are physically ready for him, but I am not emotionally ready yet. I am soaking up all the one on one time and two on one time that I can with Seamus and Jacob knowing that soon our time will be shared by one more.

I am curious to see how our family dynamic will change in the next few weeks with the arrival of baby Aiden.

Pocket Cloth Diapers

As I mentioned before I plan to cloth diaper our baby boy when he arrives. Being new to CD I was and still am overwhelmed with what is actually available to use. As a CD momma you have so many options.
I Ordered 6 Pocket Diapers from a local mom who has recently started selling CD. I received my order over the weekend 6 small pocket diapers. I am extremely happy with the product thus far,and cannot wait to try them out when baby arrives. I am also patiently waiting for my other orders to arrive so I can compare the products. Also I have ordered some prefolds and diaper covers. If any one has any advice on folding the prefolds or any tips regarding prefolds It would be welcomed..

Mother's Day

I could not of asked for a better day today..We spent the day at my parents house. My husband and step-father went out and picked up 30lbs of Lobster & 10lbs of Mussels for a Mother's Day treat. My Mom is not a big fan of Seafood, and I used to love Shellfish, untill about 4 years ago when I started to develop and allergy to it. If I even shell a lobster I find Myself Violently ill. Being Pregnant this Mothers Day I stayed far away from the seafood.... I have to admit though that I thoroughly enjoyed watching the boys devour the Lobster, something about them being aloud to be messy and eat with their fingers made them enjoy their meal even more.

Mom andI went out for banana splits at a local dilly bar, we even brought Banana splits back for the boys, and the husbands. They enjoyed Mothers Day as well..

I figure fathers day weekend will be a great weekend for mom and I to get to the Spa!!!

I love being a mom....Today I found myself thinking about how lucky I am. I got to watch my husband and boys laugh and giggle at the lobsters crawling on the deck (before they went in the pot). I had time with each one of my boys for a snuggle, tickle and a giggle... I find that being a mom has made me appreciate my own Mom so much more, and I love the Nanna she is to my boys. I also appreciate the small day to day joys of being a Mommy more and more everyday.
Happy Mother's Day to all the Moms out there !!!

Mommy's Big Boy

My son Jacob will be 4 years old on the 26th of May. He has always slept in his own bed, but never through the whole night. He would always wake in the early hours of the morning 3am-5am and head down the hall to Mommy and Daddy's Bed for a snuggle and sleep the remainder of the night in our bed. The last few weeks however in our attempt to get everyone ready for the new baby to join our family, Jacob has started to sleep all night in his bed. We are so proud of him, but I am missing his early morning Snuggles.... This morning I got up 15min before the alarm and went down the hall picked my Big boy up from his bed and tucked him in with Mommy and Daddy for a snuggle and a few giggles before out Tuesday Morning routine started. Jacob stated that he was a Big boy Most of the time, but liked to be a Baby only sometimes.....

My boys are growing up....

Cloth Diapers

Awaiting the arrival of my third child I have been searching for information on Cloth Diapering for a few reasons.

  • Being a SAHM i feel that it is my responsibility to find ways to cut expenses.. Trying to find ways to make our one income go further.. I have determined that by using cloth vs disposable will save money in the long run. Making an investment go further
  • GO GREEN cutting back on the amount of waste going into the landfills...
  • CUTE..Have you seen the cute cloth diapers these days. We have decided to go with Pocket Diapers... I have ordered 6 small diapers from a local WAHM, who sews the diapers herself and has tried and tested her designs on her own child. I have also ordered 6 small pocket diapers from ETSY,made by moms....

I am taking a small plunge into cloth diapering... I hope that 12 cloth diapers will get me through the days with a newborn, using disposables at night while the cloth diapers are in the wash. My plan is to be cloth diapering 24/7 by the time our boy is 3 Months..

Any advice or comments on cloth diapering is greatly appreciated. I am expecting some resistance from our extended family. I will be the first to attempt the cloth diapers....

Baby on Board

I am 35 weeks Pregnant this week, and for the first time during this pregnancy I am feeling very Pregnant...I am experiencing pressure and pain, and I am exhausted. Scott (My Hubby) keeps telling me to get off my feet..I wonder who he thinks picks up after him and the boys?? I would love to be able to spend the remainder of this pregnancy relaxing, but in reality life goes on, or Laundry goes on, something like that...

I am getting excited to meet the new Member of our Family. We are having a BOY!!! the name picked out is Aiden James Edwin Judson.

Our Intro

So I am stepping into the popular world of blogging. Just want a space where I can write about our day to day Family Life. I am a SAHM of two boys...soon to be three boys( 5 weeks), Seamus age 7 and Jacob age 3. I also have a step-daughter Lexi age 11, and a step-son Ashton age 9. Our home can be a bit overwhelming at times. But we wouldn't want it any other way.
