6 month Update

Aiden was 6 months old on the 12th of December. Where do the months go? My baby is 1/2 a year old. sniff. sniff..
Still no teeth.. Seriously...
Aiden is now sitting up on his own
When on the floor he will roll to get to where or what he wants. Aiden is very vocal and in constantly jabbering away..I love it!!!.
He is developing his own playful attitude. He loves when Seamus comes home from School to play with him.. Aiden absolutely loves Jacob and is always trying to get his hair in his hands..Jacob on the other hand is keeping his distance. Aiden is very much aware of the people around him, and is very social.

We are getting ready to celebrate Aiden's First Christmas. And Looking forward to what the new year has to bring us, as they boys continue to grow.

Butternut Squash Home Made Baby Food

Guess what? I made a batch of Butter nut Squash puree and it turned out great, I just wanted to share the process of making this puree for your little wee babies!
Step One: Select your produce, I stoped by the vegetable stand on Saturday and picked up 3 butternut Squash. Total money spent $2.97.

Step two: Wash the squash, I use a vegetable brush and really scrub and get all the dirt and nasties of the veg.

Step three: I cut the squash length ways..look how pretty... now my 4 year old son who was playing on the other side of the counter with his dinky cars kept looking up with a questioning look on his face when I would stop and take a picture...I can just imagine the the thought process...my mom is crazy!!

Step four: with a spoon, simply scoop out the seeds and place in the compost
Step five: Get a baking sheet and lay the squash flesh side down. Then pour about 1 cup of water (just enough to cover the bottom of the pan) in the pan. Place cookie sheet in a preheated oven of 35o * cook for about 30-40 min .
Step six: Remove from oven and let cool .

Step Seven: Scoop out the flesh of the squash, I simply use a dessert spoon. Look at all that yellow goodness all from one of the squash.
Step eight: Puree with an immersion blender, I added formula to the mixture to get the consistency that I was looking for. You can make it as thick or thin as your baby likes by adding formula or breast milk

Step nine: When you reach the consistency you want simply poor into cube trays or portion into freezer bags and freeze.
TIP: Always label your freezer bags when it comes to baby food with the date and what is in the bag be it squash or sweet potato, keep an eye on the dates and rotate your food supply by date.

Ta Da..... It really is the simple things

Aiden trying Butternut Squash... He liked it!! he would most definitely choose pears over squash...

Empty Nest Syndrome sorta kind of

My mom aka Nana offerd to take the boys on Wednesday until today which is Friday.. Seamus had two days off from school due to Professional Development days or PD days as I like to call them. So Wednesday Evening once hubby got home from work I loaded the kiddos into the truck and headed to Nana's house (which is a two hour drive), we got there they had supper got them ready for bed and tucked in and then I came home, a little giddy with excitement that I was with no children not once on the way home did I have to threaten to pull over if boys didn't stop hitting or spitting. All I could think about was sleeping in the next morning... Sleeping in!!! Imagine that..., I got home picked up the toys scatted on the floor did a load of laundry, and then headed to bed, only to wake up periodically throughout the night to check on Baby Aiden, but he was at Nana's. I was wide awake at 7 am, and waiting till 8 am before I called to check on the kids. The house was soooo freakishly quiet last night . I kept saying how awkward it is to have the house so quiet.. I debated about driving up to see them, but when I called the boys they were having so much fun., and I decided to leave them be. I can not wait till this evening to go get my Little Monkeys. Sometimes I am so quick to complain about the noise, the chaos, the fighting between the boys, the legos scatterd on the floor, but I would not change it for anything. I am blessed and I know it to have these three boys in my life. They are getting older and more independant everyday. A freind mentioned a couple of weeks ago that Aiden was spoiled that I held him to much and my response was... He is a baby, there will with out a doubt come a time where he will not need his mommy to hold him... So call it spoiled call it what ever you want I am going to snuggle with my boy..

On an ending note, Hug your kids a little longer today, be thankful for the fingerprints on the windows, and the legos upon the floor.

Labour and Delivery

My husband and I decided to go to the Hospital around 10pm Thursday evening. I had been feeling crampy since the morning. I was having contractions every 5 minuets. I was able to talk through the contractions. We got into labour and delivery and was monitored for 20 minuets. The Dr on call checked me and I was 2-3 cm, She told me it would be best if I headed home and Laboured at home she didn't think I would be back till the next day. Going home and sleeping in my own bed sounded great.

I felt a little nuts that in my third pregnancy I came to the hospital to soon, that one of the nurses said something to me about false labour. I started to not trust the signs my body was giving to me telling me I was indeed in Labour.

As we were leaving Labour and Delivery I had a bad contraction and stopped in the Hall to hang on to the rail. We live 15 min from our hospital it was a long drive back home. The contractions seemed more intense, I started to doubt that I was in labour. When we got home Scott ran a hot tub for me. He got into bed to get some rest. I got in the tub and the contractions seemed to be comming one after the other each one more intense. I barley got myself out of the tub and into our room. I could not get comfortable. I was in pain asking Scott what we should do. He finally said to me.. Mel listen to your body! If we have to drive in and back home 15 times than we will. He called the hospital and we were on our way.

At 1:30am we arrived at Labour and Delivery. We got hooked up to the monitors and the contractions were showing good and strong. The nurse checked me and I was 3-4cm dilated. The DR came in and we were talking about pain relief. I was clearly in pain and trying to breath through the contractions it just overwhelmed me this time they were so intense. I figured it would be a long labour so I asked for something that would let me get some rest. then as I progressed I would want an Epidural.

The Dr wanted to brake my waters before I got any pain relief medications. My waters were broken and there was mecconium in the fluid. The Dr then recommended that I get an epidural as opposed to the other Pain relief. this was at 2:30am. The anesthesiologist was with another patient and I was the next on the list. The contractions were coming stronger and stronger and they were continuous.

The nurse came in and checked me again and there was no time for an epidural I was fully dilated. I was in shock, pain, and I was terrified. Just as all of this was happening the anesthesiologist came in and was going to explain why he couldn't give the Epidural. The poor guyI Just looked at him and said "Look if you can't help me then you don't need to be in here".

We were rushed down the hall and into the delivery room. My baby was born at 2:43 am. 1 hour and 13 minuets after arriving at the hospital. No epidural or pain relief. Two pushes and he was delivered. He weighed 8 lbs even, 21 and 1/4 inches long.

We came home Saturday Morning from the hosptial. I am looking forward to our routine and day to day getting back to the norm.

Cloth Diapers

Awaiting the arrival of my third child I have been searching for information on Cloth Diapering for a few reasons.

  • Being a SAHM i feel that it is my responsibility to find ways to cut expenses.. Trying to find ways to make our one income go further.. I have determined that by using cloth vs disposable will save money in the long run. Making an investment go further
  • GO GREEN cutting back on the amount of waste going into the landfills...
  • CUTE..Have you seen the cute cloth diapers these days. We have decided to go with Pocket Diapers... I have ordered 6 small diapers from a local WAHM, who sews the diapers herself and has tried and tested her designs on her own child. I have also ordered 6 small pocket diapers from ETSY,made by moms....

I am taking a small plunge into cloth diapering... I hope that 12 cloth diapers will get me through the days with a newborn, using disposables at night while the cloth diapers are in the wash. My plan is to be cloth diapering 24/7 by the time our boy is 3 Months..

Any advice or comments on cloth diapering is greatly appreciated. I am expecting some resistance from our extended family. I will be the first to attempt the cloth diapers....

Baby on Board

I am 35 weeks Pregnant this week, and for the first time during this pregnancy I am feeling very Pregnant...I am experiencing pressure and pain, and I am exhausted. Scott (My Hubby) keeps telling me to get off my feet..I wonder who he thinks picks up after him and the boys?? I would love to be able to spend the remainder of this pregnancy relaxing, but in reality life goes on, or Laundry goes on, something like that...

I am getting excited to meet the new Member of our Family. We are having a BOY!!! the name picked out is Aiden James Edwin Judson.
